Today, at the New Forest and Hampshire County show, Her Majesty the Queen made the inaugural presentation of the New Forest Trust Diamond Jubilee Award. This award will be given annually to an individual who, without expectation of recognition or reward, has given freely of their own time and made a significant contribution towards the maintenance and improvement of the cultural heritage, conservation and rural economy of the New Forest.
Nominated and then chosen by a panel of his peers, the first recipient of the award is Mr Brian Ingram. A long time commoner and retired Head Agister of the New Forest he has unstintingly given of his time to numerous organisations working for the long term benefit of the New Forest and especially the Crown Lands that form such a large part of it and are recognised for their beauty, outstanding conservation value and cultural heritage.
The Trust chairman, Richard Manley, said “ The New Forest Trust intends that this award will continue to be given for many years and there could be no greater honour than for the first ever recipient to have received it from the Queen in this, her Jubilee year”
